Carlos Mazón, president of the Generalitat Valenciana, announced a forthcoming impact and necessity study for a second runway at Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport and the expansion of Manises Airport in Valencia, to be presented late April or early May. At the inauguration of EasyJet’s fourth Spanish base in Alicante-Elche Airport, Mazón stressed the urgency of enhanced infrastructure due to increased connections. He underscored the absence of a second runway and rail connection as a nationwide need, not just local, highlighting the competitive disadvantage against other locations. Pilar Bernabé, government delegate in the Valencian Community, assured the central government’s support for the expansion as guided by Aena’s technical advice. Bernabé criticized the Valencian government for demanding more while executing little, despite claiming an investment of over €2.6 billion in Alicante from the central government, much higher than the regional government’s contributions.
