During his visit to the health departments of Orihuela and Torrevieja, Minister of Health, Marciano Gómez, emphasized the importance of the Ministry’s new measures to ensure comprehensive and equitable care, especially in areas considered of difficult coverage. Gómez pointed out that both health departments fall within this category and are being supported by the implementation of a new Decree Law of Extraordinary Measures aimed at enhancing healthcare in the Valencian Health System. The departments are part of the Interdepartmental Health Group of South Alicante, aiming for improved synergy in patient care.

Significant investments are being made in both Orihuela and Torrevieja to enhance healthcare infrastructure. The Vega Baja Hospital is undergoing a €62 million expansion to increase its capacity and services, including the addition of 52 beds and new facilities for outpatient clinics, day hospital services, and mental health services. For 2024, over €8 million and €4 million have been allocated for healthcare infrastructure improvements in Orihuela and Torrevieja respectively. Torrevieja hospital will also receive an upgrade in equipment, including new ultrasound machines, laparoscopic towers for surgery, surgical microscopes, and lasers for ENT treatments, totaling almost €3 million in investments.
