In a significant announcement, Carlos Mazón, the president of the Valencia Regional Government, pledged to prioritize the heritage recovery of Orihuela’s historical and monumental center. This initiative, aimed at boosting the local economy and enhancing tourism, will focus on the comprehensive rehabilitation of Orihuela’s rich architectural and artistic heritage, including significant historical landmarks. Additionally, Mazón emphasized the critical need for sufficient water allocation to support the region’s present needs and future development, particularly in the agriculture-driven economy of Vega Baja. The commitment follows decades of underinvestment in the area, with limited funds directed towards heritage conservation and essential infrastructure. The proposed plans signal a transformative approach to sustaining and revitalizing Orihuela and its surrounding region, ensuring its growth and preserving its cultural legacy.
