A project to see the building of 954 homes on unspoilt land in Orihuela Costa has been slammed by the Friends of Sierra Escalona (ASE) association. The land borders the Dehesa de Campoamor urbanisation to the north and Pilar de la Horadada to the south.

In line with legal reqirements, Orihuela Town Hall has put the plans for the 159,000 m2 urbanisation at Mil Palmeras on display. A 45-day period of consultation is now underway, offering the community the opportunity to comment.

ASE president, Miguel Angel Pavon, described any approval of the proposals as a ‘complete nonsense’. The Association will submit a plan to Orihuela Council to reclassify the land as an ‘ecological corridor’ between the protected area of the Sierra Escalona and the sea.
