Tropical nights on the Costa Blanca

The readings have now been confirmed, revealing that on Tuesday, a maritime buoy of the coast of Valencia recorded its historical maximum nighttime temperature in the month of October, marking 25.74 degrees at 11:20 p.m.

It is rare, but not exceptional to have minimum temperatures above 20 degrees at this time of year. The latest date to record a tropical night in Valencia was November 6 and 7, 1985 with minimums of 22.2 and 21.2 degrees, respectively, explains the state meteorological service, AEMET.

Benidorm recorded 21.2 degrees, Alicante-Elche airport 20.2, and Rojales recorded 20.1 degrees.

Although we still have to wait for the data to be confirmed, the Mao and Dragonera maritime buoys later recorded temperatures close to 27 degrees, while the Cabo de Gata buoy has gone from 19 to around 24 degrees in two weeks.

Tragedy in Elche

Emergency services were called to assist a man who had been injured after falling from the third floor of a building in Elche.

The SAMU paramedic team assisted the 33-year-old man, who had multiple traumas, before he was taken to the Vinalopó hospital in Elche.

In a separate incident, also in Elche, a 45-year-old worker died in a workplace incident after falling from the roof of a warehouse.

Although a paramedic team was also sent to this incident, the medical staff were only able to confirm the death of the victim.

Celebrating the police of Santa Pola

The Local Police of Santa Pola chose today to celebrate the festival of its Patron, Dia de los Santos Ángeles Custodios, normally celebrated on 2 October, and has organised a series of events in its commemoration.

The day begins with mass in the Chapel of the Virgin of Loreto, followed by a gathering of officers in the parade ground of the castle, where they will be joined by local delegates, to pay tribute to their fallen colleagues.

Then congratulations and medals to several agents in the Baluarte del Duque, and will feature speeches by Police Councillor Ana Blasco, Chief Commissioner José Miguel Zaragoza and Mayor Loreto Serrano, followed by wine in a more relaxed atmosphere.

Events for young people in Torrevieja

Following on from the presentation of the general cultural calendar for autumn, the youth department in Torrevieja town hall has published the schedule of events aimed at young people in the municipality, with the highlights being a trip to Port Aventura, the Torrerífico short film festival and the Patron Saint Festival Gymkhana.

A total of 10 activities and events make up the new youth programming, with the trip to Port Aventura on the first weekend in November, but before that, coinciding with Halloween, will be the “Terrorífico” horror film festival.

There are also English conversation groups included in the schedule, featuring native English speakers as volunteers.

A concert for everyone with the feeling of love

The Municipal Theatre in Torrevieja will welcome the Orfeón de Torrevieja choir for their most romantic concert of 2023 on Sunday, a concert in which it will offer a selection of the best love songs of all time, directed by Mario Ignacio Bustillo.

Again, as in each “Love Songs”, there will be a performance of pieces dedicated to love and romanticism. Songs that will be able to bring the large audience of the Municipal Theatre to their feet. During the concert, themes and works of love will be performed, stimulating feelings in a special way.

This “Love Songs” concert will bring to all lovers of good music, great pieces from the international scene and from all eras, the best opera arias, Zarzuelas known to all, Habaneras, pop, musicals, and more.

Tickets cost 10 euro and can be obtained from the theatre box office, curtain up is at 8:30 p.m.

Alleged rapist remanded in custody

The Guardia Civil arrested two men in Villajoyosa for a crime of sexual assault, allegedly committed against a foreign tourist in August in the town.

The events occurred at dawn when the victim was waiting for a taxi in Benidorm to return to her hotel after going out partying and the perpetrators offered to take her in exchange for money. After agreeing to travel with them and paying for the trip, the girl fell asleep, subsequently they both took advantage of the situation to take her to one of their homes and sexually assault her.

The detainees have been placed on remand as alleged perpetrators of a crime of rape.

Benidorm takes stock of business closures

Following the tragic fire in Murcia that claimed the lives of 13 people, operating without a licence since last year, many town halls around the country are highlighting their activities to show how safety is a priority for their department. On such area is Benidorm, where a total of 67 closure orders for establishments of all types have been issued since 2019.

According to the spokesperson for the town hall, José Javier Jordá, “We always respond to safety criteria; we are talking about capacity, fire-fighting measures, control of fire extinguishers, emergency exits… All the measures that an activity needs”, are the most common closure reasons.

Wedding event for pre-teens in Alfas

Framed around the commemorative events celebrating local history and cultures, Alfàs del Pi will be hosting a special wedding workshop in the cultural centre on Saturday, aimed at girls and boys aged between 3 and 12 years.

“In this workshop, some of the aspects related to weddings will be recreated, such as the importance of flowers within the wedding ritual, marriage contracts and wedding photographs,” explained the Councillor for Culture and Heritage of l’Alfàs, Manuel Casado, after encouraging the families of the municipality to participate in this activity.

Finally, a reminder that Monday is a regional holiday across Valencia, so we´re back on Tuesday next week, and Thursday is a national holiday, for the biggest celebration in the country for Spain´s national day.
