Better radios for Santa Pola police

Santa Pola Local Police will be joining the digital communications age with the implementation of the TETRA secure radio system to improve communications across the entire municipality.

The Councillor for Police, Ana Blasco, explained that “currently, the Local Police of Santa Pola has transmission systems that are more than 15 years old and obsolete technology that prevents complete coverage in all areas of the district. This limitation has given rise to areas where communications are not effective, which causes serious damage and difficulties in the performance of security tasks.”

The 130,000 euro investment includes base stations, vehicle kits, and 67 mobile units for individual officers.

Suicide help in Rojales

Rojales town hall has received a grant of 3,000 euro from the Alicante provincial government to go towards their “alone” campaign, which is a specific awareness and assistance program aimed at tackling and preventing suicide ideation due to gender violence.

Suicide ideation is a broad term used to describe levels of suicidal thoughts, sometimes passive, which can lead to further complications and worsen if not tackled early enough.

Cyclist injured in Guardamar

A cyclist was injured after falling down an embankment at Guardamar del Segura on his bike.

Medics were called to the scene on the Torrevieja road, near to the military base, and with the assistance of fire crews who also attended due to the location of the victim, carried out various routines to stabilise the 46-year-old male before transferring him to Torrevieja hospital with multiple injuries.

Lemon crop disappointment

The cooperative of fruit growers representing citrus farmers across Alicante has this week rectified their crop forecast due to the adverse weather conditions last month that caused “a very significant decrease in lemon production”.

The strong hail that surprised almost all the lemon-producing municipalities of the Vega Baja del Segura, including San Fulgencio, Orihuela, and Rojales, amongst others, now means the farmers don´t expect to reach a million tons of fruit, whereas the original expectation was almost 1.2 million.

Going green in Gran Alacant

Green-fingered residents of Santa Pola, including Gran Alacant, are invited to apply for one of the urban allotments which are about to become available.

Interested parties can obtain information now, before the deadline at the end of this month, and those who are successful must satisfy a number of requirements, such as being registered in the town hall, and then you can have your very own plot for just 50 euro a year.

N-332 road repairs

The Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (Mitma) has awarded the contract for repair works to parts of the N-332, specifically, between kilometres 161.15 and 166.8, on the Altea-Calp section.

The work will cost just over 437,000 euro, and will include the extension of a new road surface where the existing one is deteriorated, improving traction, and the repainting of road markings, amongst other improvements.

Foster father fraudster in court

The provincial court in Alicante will hear evidence from today against a man accused of using the bank account of his foster father, who was 85 years old at the time of the events. The Prosecutor’s Office requests four years in prison for the defendant for a continuous crime of fraud.

According to the public accusation, the defendant took advantage of the relationship of trust that the victim had with him, having been his foster father since he was five years old, to access the man’s bank card and between October 2020 and June 2021, make up to 675 charges for an amount greater than 38,000 euro corresponding to online purchases.

Local associations coming together in Denia

On Saturday, local associations from across the Marina Alta will come together in Dénia for the latest version of the town’s popular Associations Fair.

The aim of the event is to offer help and information about these non-profit entities and associations in the social, cultural, sports, leisure and citizen participation fields.

In total, some 43 entities will take part, and free workshops will also be on offer dealing with everything from arts and crafts to dealing with loneliness.
