Covid and flu vaccination begins

The combined Covid 19 and flu vaccination campaign starts today across the Valencia region.

According to the regional Minster for Health, Marciano Gómez, “In total, the administration of more than 2 million vaccine doses is planned at 2,683 vaccination points, of which 417 are care homes”.

This year, children under five years of age (between 6 and 59 months) will also be vaccinated against the flu.

Priority will be given to vaccinating residents in care homes for the elderly and those with functional diversity, the population over 80 years of age, health and socio-health personnel, people between 60 and 79 years of age and other risk groups.

Alicante airport breaks September record

Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández international airport has recorded the best September in its history with more than 1.5 million passengers, which represents an increase of 15.1% compared to the same month last year.

International flight passengers increased by 16.9% compared to the same period in 2022, and domestic passengers increased by 4.7%.

The countries that contributed the most travellers in September 2023 were the United Kingdom, with over half a million, the Netherlands with over 100,000, then Germany, Belgium, and Norway.

The best pizza in the world is from Benijófar

A chef from Benijófar, Antonio Carlos García, has confirmed the Vega Baja town’s identity in the international culinary spotlight, by once again winning the award for best pizza maker in the world for the second consecutive year.

The World Pizza Championship, held in the Italian capital, has once again reaffirmed the mastery of Antonio Carlos García as the best pizza maker in the world in the Neapolitan pizza category.

Man arrested for attacks

The Local Police of Elche arrest a 49-year-old man for attacking authority after attacking another person in El Altet.

The agents observed the events, which occurred during a concert, and quickly intervened by asking the aggressor to identify himself. He refused, hit one of the police officers in the chest and pushed another very aggressively, so he had to be restrained.

The aggressor was arrested and taken to police station.

Licence lacking driver caught out

Almoradí Local Police intercepted a vehicle after the driver fled from a checkpoint.

The driver, who lacked a driving licence, ignored the officers’ instructions asking him to stop the vehicle and, after fleeing, was intercepted near the Ciudad Deportiva.

In collaboration with the Guardia Civil, the occupants have been identified and proceedings have been taken to the court since the driver did not have a licence and could result in prison.

Better public transport

The Valencia regional Government is promoting a new public transport bus service that will serve almost 200,000 people from 18 municipalities in the north of the Costa Blanca. This measure is part of a shock plan to improve the passenger transport service, which was a demand of many of the mayors of the region.

Thanks to the new concession contract, which has involved an investment of 6.7 million euro, the road passenger transport service that connects Benidorm with L’Alfàs del Pi will be improved, along with routes connecting towns including Altea, Finestrat, the Castle of Guadalest, La Nucia, La Vila Joiosa, and others, as well as some connections between these municipalities through 10 lines that will be served by 36 operational vehicles plus 4 reserve vehicles.

Moneylender arrested for extortion

A 31-year-old Spanish moneylender was arrested in Alicante for allegedly extorting for eight months a man to whom he had lent 3,000 euro and to whom he demanded, through threats, the return of 20,000.

According to the National Police, the victim ended up denouncing the situation that he had been suffering for months, with threats against his physical integrity.

The police verified that the accused has a history of other similar acts and, after being located and arrested for an alleged crime of extortion, he was placed at the disposal of the Alicante duty court.

Alfàs del Pi sporting fixtures near completion

The construction works of a new sports court next to the Pau Gasol pavilion, currently being carried out by the Alfàs del Pi Council, are entering their final stretch.

An investment of almost 200,000 euro was subsidised by the Alicante provincial government, will see the facility completed shortly, as confirmed by the mayor of l’Alfàs, Vicente Arques, during the technical visit that he carried out together with the councillor for Sports, José Plaza, and the councillors for European Funds, Dolores Albero, and for Youth, Carolina Solbes.
