Pomegranate production down

The harvest of Mollar de Elche pomegranates with Denomination of Origin (DOP) this year is expected to be between 30 and 35 million kilos. This represents a 30% decrease compared to last season.

The repeated heat waves during the summer are what have caused this reduction in production.

The Mollar pomegranate from Elche is the only pomegranate in the world with a Protected Designation of Origin. The geographical area of ​​the DOP covers 40 municipalities in the regions of Baix Vinalopó, Vega Baja and L’Alacantí. More than 75% of the national production of pomegranates is concentrated in that geographical area.

Urban art in Santa Pola

This weekend, Santa Pola will host the first urban art festival, ‘RAU Fest Santa Pola’, with five artists from different places in Spain and one local participant taking part in the festival with music, live performances, children’s workshops and a craft market.

“The theme consists of painting murals about Santa Pola but very open to the different styles of each artist, and in fact we are going to have styles from very abstract to very figurative.
