Water shortages continue

For the first time in the last six months, water reserves have improved on average around the country, now standing at 35.6% of its total capacity, one percent more than last week, the same cannot be said for the Alicante province, where resources continue to decline.

In the Segura basin, which is at 22.8 percent of its capacity, a decrease of 0.61 percent was experienced again in the last week, and in Júcar, the decrease has been 0.32 percent, now standing at 46.8%.

School strikes for Palestine

The Student Union has called for a students to stay away from school today, in an act to express their rejection “of the Gaza genocide” and, at the same time, its solidarity with the Palestinian people, they explain in a statement that they sent to educational centres.

For the last two weekends, demonstrations have taken place in Elche, mainly of Arab and Muslim families, against the outbreak of violence carried out by Israel and in the occupied territories, with daily bombings and hundreds of deaths without the international community having managed to prevent it.

The students thus express their solidarity with the victims and ask for an end to the bombings on civilians.

Fuel thief in court

The Prosecutor’s Office is asking for three years and nine months in prison for a continuous crime of fraud for a man accused of refuelling without paying at a petrol station in Alicante on 31 occasions for a value greater than 2,790 euro.

In the trial set for Thursday, evidence will be presented which details how, according to the public accusation, between May 15 and June 15, the defendant obtained fuel with the false promise of paying the money later, which he subsequently never did.

Mental health conference in Pilar

The Departments of Health, Youth and Social Services of Pilar de la Horadada Council has organised the second edition of their dedicated Mental Health Conference, which will be held on Saturday, December 2 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The event will feature the participation of three speakers specialised in the subject. Among them: Mrs. María José Barberá, general health psychologist at the Mental Health Unit of the Torrevieja Hospital.

Hospital awards

As talk continues to focus on Denia hospital returning to public management soon, the current private firm running the service, Ribera Salud, has once again been awarded the most prestigious recognitions for quality and service, with the Denia hospital being the most awarded in the health group, after comparing results between more than 200 Spanish health centres, which are subject to evaluation by an independent scientific commission.

What could be cause for concern is that it is the same situation that Torrevieja hospital was in before reverting to public management, and has since fallen completely off the scale of recognition.

Thousands celebrate in Alfas

Successful participation in the sixteenth International Day of l’Alfàs del Pi brought together more than 3,000 people of nearly a hundred nationalities on the esplanade of the Casa del Cultura this week.
