Big bill for healthcare

The Valencia regional government has authorised the regional Ministry of Health to submit a claim of 926 million euro from the central Government of Spain, to compensate for the expense derived from health care to displaced patients from other autonomous communities and foreigners.

The regional body claims that the funds should have already been paid through an approved national scheme, and that, specifically, the Government owes the Valencian Community 843.3 million euro for the care of displaced people from other communities and 82.7 million for the assistance to foreign patients.

Defibrillators for Orihuela

Orihuela town hall has put out to tender the specifications for the rental and maintenance of defibrillators that will be distributed throughout the different municipal facilities.

The tender price amounts to just under 260,000 euro, for a lease period of 60 months, for a minimum of 39 devices, although the tender score will be increased for those companies who offer more, up to 55.

The defibrillators will be installed in Local Police and emergency facilities, municipal buildings, and some will be in weather-proof boxes in municipal parks.

Science week in Torrevieja

Four scientific talks given by professors and researchers selected from the Miguel Hernández University, the University of Alicante and the University of Murcia, as well as guided tours and workshops at the Torrevieja Natural History Museum, will all make up the programming open to the public this year at the fifteenth edition of Science Week in Torrevieja.

The talks will be held at the Virgen del Carmen Cultural Centre in Torrevieja, with free entry until capacity is reached, starting on Friday with professor of History of Science at the UMH, Dr. Rosa Ballester, giving a talk on women in science and medicine.

Mosquito warning

The councillor for the environment in Dénia, Sandra Gertrúdix, has given details of how her department is monitoring and controlling pests throughout the year in the municipality, including mosquitoes.

Although much of the work is carried out on a regular basis, the town hall wanted to highlight that the All Saint´s Day celebrations can revitalise mosquitoes, as visitors to cemeteries change the water in vases and therefore wake the dormant insects.

The advice is to try to avoid using water and instead use special pouches for feeding the plants left at graves.

More parking in Benidorm

Benidorm town hall has given approval for the demolition of the old Telefónica offices located a few metres from Parque de Elche.

The building was bought by the company Ibertele SL, which has presented a project to demolish the existing building and replace it with a multistorey car park.

The company already operates a number of similar facilities in the town.

Finally, a reminder that Wednesday is a national holiday in Spain, a red day, so we´re back on Thursday. In the meantime, have a safe Halloween and All Saint´s Day.
