Almoradí and other Vega Baja towns will mark the 195th anniversary since devastating earthquakes struck the region on March 21. To commemorate this event, the Red Cross, in collaboration with Almoradí’s Municipal Council, will conduct a seminar to educate and explain to attendees what actions to take during earthquakes, how emergency teams coordinate, and what measures the public can implement to minimize damage. The seminar, led by Andrés Chessa, the provincial head of Red Cross’s Emergency Unit in Alicante experienced in earthquake intervention, including the 2011 Lorca earthquake, will take place at 6 pm in the Town Hall auditorium. Additionally, the Red Cross will showcase emergency vehicles and tents used for medical and shelter purposes to illustrate emergency response capabilities. The Red Cross’s Immediate Emergency Response Teams (ERIE) are activated during disasters, such as the DANA in Vega Baja, to provide immediate care to affected populations. Notably, the Red Cross mobilized its Shelter Provision Team during DANA and its Psychosocial Intervention Team played a crucial role in supporting victims of a recent fire in the Campanar area of Valencia.
