Surgeons at Torrevieja University Hospital have successfully performed a pioneering laparoscopic esophageal resection on an elderly patient with an esophageal tumor, utilizing 3D technology for the first time. The use of a personalized 3D anatomical model significantly improved tumor localization and oncological resection. The multidisciplinary team, led by Dr. Andrés Tomás and including Dr. Yannko González, utilized advanced computational techniques, artificial intelligence, and 3D printing to create and employ the model, demonstrating a substantial advancement in the accuracy and success of complex surgeries. The integration of personalized 3D technology in esophageal and gastric surgery is still emerging, highlighted Dr. González, signaling a new era in the treatment of esophago-gastric cancer. Over 400 scientific publications support the clinical use of 3D modeling technology in personalized cancer surgery planning, emphasizing its potential to reduce intraoperative complications and enhance intervention success.
