More than 14,000 students from all schools in Torrevieja simultaneously participated in a seismic emergency drill on Thursday, marking the 195th anniversary of the Vega Baja earthquake in 1829. The comprehensive simulation exercise was designed to test and improve emergency response capabilities in the event of a real earthquake. With over 100 members from the Local Police, Civil Guard, Fire Department, SAMU, Red Cross, and Civil Protection involved, the drill featured a multitude of rescue operations, a field hospital establishment in Plaza de la Constitución, and preparedness measures for potential communication breakdowns. Among the scenarios simulated were the rescues of individuals from a school, a church, and using aerial means. The exercise underscored the importance of preparedness and community involvement in disaster response efforts.
