Passengers starting their Easter getaway at Alicante-Elche airport experienced long queues on Thursday due to a strike by security staff, which began at 8:30 am. The strike, called by the CCOO union to protest against working conditions, resulted in partial strikes announced through to September 1, occurring in two time slots everyday. Despite the queues and a temporary increase in waiting times, airport operator Aena stated that security controls are operating normally, with an 85% minimum staff presence guaranteed by labour laws. The union has warned of potential greater disruptions on Good Friday due to anticipated higher passenger volumes, with a possible 35,000 travellers. The CCOO’s demands include changes to shift patterns and longer breaks for staff.
