In Vega Baja, March saw a continuation of the unemployment decrease, making it the second month in a row where joblessness figures fell, this time by 653, bringing the total number of unemployed to 23,995. According to UGT, this trend is a clear indicator of the commencement of the seasonal hiring period. However, they stress the need for further investments in technology and research to foster the creation of stable, quality employment opportunities. UGT also emphasizes that despite the positive trend in employment, there’s still a necessity to address long-term unemployment more efficiently and to advocate for fair wages and salary revision clauses in collective agreements, to counter the loss of purchasing power amongst workers. Breaking down the figures by municipalities, Torrevieja leads with a reduction of 335 unemployed individuals, followed by Orihuela and Guardamar del Segura, with decreases of 76 and 42 respectively. The current unemployment rates stand at 7,282 for Torrevieja, 4,591 for Orihuela, and 860 for Guardamar del Segura.
