The Provincial Fire Brigade Consortium of Alicante has introduced an innovative toy designed to aid in the rescue, evacuation, or extrication of children involved in emergencies. The plush toy, symbolising a Belgian shepherd dog, is an initiative between the Technological Institute for Children’s Products and Leisure (AIJU) and the Fundación Crecer Jugando. Toni Pérez, president of the Alicante Provincial Council, along with key emergency response and child research representatives, unveiled the toy, stressing its role in distracting and soothing children during critical moments to minimise shock and anxiety. Developed with careful considerations for attractiveness, texture, size, and association with rescue operations, this toy dresses in firefighter attire to foster a stronger connection with the emergency services. With an initial production of 900 units, this toy is intended for use across a variety of emergency interventions, ranging from traffic accidents to fires and rescues. This project marks a unique contribution to emergency response strategies, particularly in engaging with children to ensure their safety and comfort during stressful situations.
