1 dead, 1 injured after rockfall in Pyreness

A mountaineer has died and another was seriously injured in a rockfall in the Pyrenees’ town of Hyesca.

Emergency services were alerted to the rockfall at Embudo de Pineta, Bielsa on Sunday afternoon.

The 48-year-old victims, both from Barcelona, encountered the incident while trekking.

Bad weather hampered rescue efforts, with emergency crews having to carry the injured man to safety, with the body of the deceased man due to be recovered in the coming days.
