Shark Sightings Prompt Temporary Closure Of Melenara And Salinetas Beaches In Spain’s Canary Islands

Officials on Gran Canaria have reopened a number of beaches in Telde after sightings of sharks.

The beaches at Melenara and Salinetas re-opened for swimming after the sighting of three sharks, including a blue and a hammerhead shark, prompted a temporary closure.

Authorities, using drones, confirmed the fish were not in the area and will continue monitoring to ensure swimmer safety.
