Alicante’s new street food market will open later in the month

Alicante Street Food Market

In the city of Alicante, people enjoy living outside. Particularly when it comes to delicious food and cultural events, its streets, squares, and promenades make the ideal location for spending time with loved ones.

Despite the current bad weather, those who enjoy street entertainment are in luck since the Alicante Street Food Market is back in Espacio Séneca for its ninth edition, bringing with it its customary craft market.

Plaza Séneca will be converted from March 20th to 23rd into a lively gathering place for fans of street food and artisanal innovation. What started out as a small culinary event in 2015 has grown into a province-wide icon, drawing thousands of people each time.

There will be something for every taste at this tenth edition, as 12 vintage food trucks will provide a diverse gastronomic selection that includes everything from Tex-Mex to hamburgers, hot dogs, and crepes. More than 40 stands of designers, artists, and craftspeople will also be present in the Market area, serving as a platform for both domestic and foreign talent.

However, this gathering is much more than just crafts and food. With a lineup of performers and bands that will enliven the days on the two stages that have been set up—one in Plaza Séneca and another in Espacio Séneca—live music will be the main attraction.

Raúl Antón will perform as a DJ at the opening on Thursday, March 20th at 6 p.m. Sanguijuelas del Guadiana, an Extremaduran band, will debut in Alicante on Friday night.

The Liverpool Band, one of the greatest Beatles tribute bands, will take the stage on Saturday morning. Later that day, the Alicante group Guaraná will perform an acoustic set featuring their greatest hits, including “La casa de Inés” and “Noche en Vela.” At 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, Xeco Rojo will conclude the musical program.

Additionally, there will be activities specifically tailored for the younger audience, including storytelling, Clown Edy’s children’s shows, art classes, and a performance by Dani Miquel.

In order to ensure that the music never stops playing during the four days, DJ Alacant will also be in charge of establishing the ambiance during non-live moments.

Free admission will be provided, and bars will serve beer and soft beverages to go with the food selection.

Elche looks for ways to ease traffic at the l’Aljub roundabout

l’Aljub roundabout

In order to improve mobility capacity and lessen traffic jams on specific days and times when traffic density is higher, Elche Council, through the public spaces department, has put out a call for bids for a traffic study to alleviate congestion at the L’Aljub roundabout. Claudio Guilabert, the local councillor, has clarified that they will seek to address the traffic bottlenecks that arise there and have put forward three potential solutions. As a result, a 24,200 euro procurement process has been started for a traffic study that includes specific measures to address this issue.

One of these ideas is to build a new access road to the northern part of l’Aljub and install traffic lights at the roundabout. Additionally, as all of the traffic is currently concentrated in two places, he mentioned the installation of new access points to l’Aljub. Similarly, it is suggested that a third access be built at the El Corte Inglés Shopping Centre roundabout, providing direct access to the El Sauce Shopping Centre and Crevillente Road.

Guilabert has noted that, in light of the proposals made, the interested businesses will need to provide additional information or suggest fresh ideas that the City Council’s engineering staff will review.

In order to obtain a final project within two to three months with which to implement measures that would address the traffic issues throughout the entire region, companies are now given a 20-day window to submit their bids. He noted that the execution budget will be approximately 200,000 euros in this regard.

Two men arrested for selling chlorethyl in an Almoradí nightclub

Almoradi Guardia Civil

Two young people were arrested for allegedly committing a crime against public health after the Guardia Civil, as part of the Operational Plan for police response to retail drug trafficking and consumption in areas, places, and leisure venues, discovered them selling bottles of ethyl chlorine near a popular nightclub in Almoradí.

The incidents took place on March 1st when agents from the Main Post of the Guardia Civil of Almoradí’s Investigation Area set up a device to stop the selling of drugs near the company. During the surveillance, the agents noticed that a number of people approached a car parked in the parking lot many times within an hour of the nightclub opening. They got into the back of the car, spoke briefly with the owner or his friend, gave them some cash, and got a little white box before they left. It was later discovered that some of the purchasers had removed a spray can from the box and applied its contents to their clothing sleeves in order to breathe in the chemical.

The agents searched the car in question and identified the two suspected vendors after developing a suspicion that the chemical being given might be chlorethyl. They discovered the following things inside: 33 chlorethyl bottles, 6.7 grammes of cannabis, and 275 euros in different denomination bills.

The suspects, two young males, ages 23 and 26, were taken into custody on suspicion of selling illegal medications as a crime against public health. Together with the seized goods, the proceedings have been made available to the Judicial District of Orihuela’s Court on Duty.

A topical anaesthetic called chlorethyl is used to treat injuries sustained in sports or after impacts. Its misuse, however, might result in complete unconsciousness and memory loss. When this substance and alcohol are combined, respiratory coma may result, which could have major health repercussions.

The Guardia Civil reaffirms its commitment to combating drug trafficking and the use of illegal narcotics in recreational settings while cautioning about the dangers of inhalant use, which can result in major health harm.
