Three people arrested for robberies in Alicante and Madrid

Three males have been arrested by the Guardia Civil for their involvement in a robbery at a house in Agost as part of the Plan against Home Robberies. One of them is also accused of committing another heist at the end of the previous year in a posh residence on Madrid’s “Golden Mile.” The primary perpetrator of these incidents has been ordered to serve a provisional prison sentence by the legal authority.
After being robbed at her home, an Agost homeowner filed a report on January 18th, which sparked the investigation. By climbing inside and breaking through a window, the criminals were able to enter the property and take more than 4,000 euros in cash and jewellery.
Given these circumstances, the Guardia Civil of Novelda’s Investigation Area agents began an investigation to shed light on the crime. In order to identify the car used in the crime, they first studied footage from security cameras situated around the municipality and close to the residence.
The car was registered under the name of a 42-year-old Ukrainian national who leased 18 of his vehicles to unaffiliated third parties. Following the inquiry, an operation was conducted in the city of Alicante on February 6th; the person was found and taken into custody.
After more investigation, the driver of the car was identified as a 48-year-old Russian national who was detained in the town of Finestrat on suspicion of being involved in the incidents.
The heist was committed by the third suspect, a 45-year-old Georgian national with a history of property offences. Since he had no known address and no family, friends, or employment in Spain, it was very challenging to find him. He was also the target of a National Police search and arrest order for allegedly participating in a second heist at the end of 2024 in a posh residence on Madrid’s “Golden Mile,” when he took cash and a number of valuables.
Police intelligence investigation revealed that this person would be flying from Romania to Spain on the evening of February 22nd. His arrest in the arrivals terminal was the result of a special operation that was set up at the Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport in response to this information. The Fiscal and Border Analysis and Investigation Unit (UDAIFF) assisted the agents in this intervention.
The latter detainee, who is charged with two crimes of burglary inside a home, was placed at the disposal of the Court of Duty and Instruction of the Judicial District of Elche, which ordered his immediate remand in custody.

In Benidorm hotels, British tourists surpass national tourists

The rise in hotel occupancy in Benidorm during the second half of February, which accounted for 42% of arrivals and was three points higher than in the first part of the month, was once again mostly due to British tourists. The Costa Blanca’s tourist capital, Hosbec, finished this time with hotels at 76.8%, higher than the monthly average of 75.5%, according to data.
With these numbers, the Brits have surpassed the national tourists, whose share of visitors decreased from 43.8% to 40.2% in the second half of the month. Similarly, the Dutch accounted for 5.2% of all visits, with Belgians coming in second at 5% and Irish at 2.2%.
With 76% of reservations confirmed for the first half of the month, one point more than during the same period in 2024, the March predictions support the upward trend. Hoteliers are able to keep positive expectations for the season because of this steadiness.
Due to the celebration of CEVISAMA and the rise in economic activity in the ceramics industry, Castellón had the highest average hotel occupancy rate in the Valencian Community, at about 85%. The employers’ group claims that “tourism and professional events combined to favour these positive results.”
While reservations for the first half of March were comparable to last year, Valencia saw a decline in occupancy, particularly in 4-star hotels. With 74.2% occupancy in the second half of February and a monthly balance of 72.8%, the Costa Blanca—aside from Benidorm—also had a minor decline, falling 3.3 points short of 2024.
