Dogs in Shops

Navigating the world of shopping with your canine companion in Spain requires a bit of understanding of local customs and regulations. While Spain is increasingly dog-friendly, the rules regarding dogs in shops can vary significantly.
Here’s a general overview for dog lovers:
- Variability is Key:
- Unlike some countries with strict, nationwide policies, Spain’s approach to dogs in shops often depends on individual business owners. This implies that while one shop might embrace your dog, another might enforce a strict “no dogs” policy.
- Even within large retail chains, policies can differ from store to store.
- Food Establishments:
- Generally, it’s less common to find dogs allowed in supermarkets or other food stores, due to hygiene regulations.
- Smaller, Independent Shops:
- Many smaller, independent boutique shops, especially in tourist areas, tend to be more lenient. It’s always a good idea to ask permission before entering.
- Shopping Centres:
- Some shopping centres are making efforts to become more dog-friendly. For example, the Zenia Boulevard shopping centre is a dog friendly shopping center. However, even in dog-friendly shopping centres, individual stores may have their own rules.
- General Etiquette:
- Regardless of whether a shop allows dogs, it’s essential to practice responsible pet ownership. This includes:
- Keeping your dog on a leash at all times.
- Ensuring your dog is well-behaved and does not disturb other customers.
- Being prepared to clean up after your dog if necessary.
- Regardless of whether a shop allows dogs, it’s essential to practice responsible pet ownership. This includes:
- Online Resources:
- Websites and apps like BringFido can be valuable resources for finding dog-friendly businesses in Spain.
In essence, when shopping in Spain with your dog, it’s best to be prepared to ask for permission and to always prioritise your dog’s behaviour and the comfort of others.

Man faces 17 years for twice raping a woman he met at a nightclub

Seventeen years of imprisonment. The Prosecutor’s Office is seeking this sentence for a man who is accused of raping a woman he met at a nightclub in Dénia on two separate occasions on the same night. The trial will be conducted at the Alicante Provincial Court today Monday March 17th.
On the evening of September 2nd, 2022, the defendant and the victim met at the establishment, engaged in conversation, and consumed intoxicating beverages together. The man proposed that the woman accompany him to the toilet to use cocaine at some point during the night. The victim, who was in a state of drowsiness and unaware of reality due to alcohol consumption, concurred.
Despite the woman’s explicit request to cease, the prosecution maintains that the defendant exploited her situation to engage in sexual intercourse with her while in the restroom. The defendant then departed to rejoin his companions, leaving the victim alone in the nightclub. Simultaneously, the defendant extended an offer to accompany the victim to her residence.
The Prosecutor’s Office maintains that he seized her arm and threw her into an underground parking lot, where he sexually assaulted her once more with great force. The woman required psychological treatment and sustained injuries that required 15 days to recover.
The initial hearing of the trial is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. in the Third Section today Monday March 17th. The subsequent hearing will be conducted in the same tribunal on March 18th.

Elche woman held for attempting to murder another with a knife

A 55-year-old resident of Elche has been incarcerated by the on-call court for an alleged attempted homicide. A woman was assaulted on the neck in her own home by a disguised man who was carrying a sharp object last Friday, March 7th. The incident was reported by CBD HERE https://costablancadaily.com/2025/03/12/woman-assaulted-in-her-elche-home/ earlier this week. The woman contacted the CIMACC 091 coordination room.
The woman was observed to be bleeding profusely upon the approach of the police patrol and specialists in violent crimes. According to the report, she was promptly transported to Elche General Hospital via a SAMU ambulance, as “her life could be in serious danger.”
The sole piece of information that investigators had was that a hooded man had entered the victim’s residence and struck her with a kitchen knife to the throat. The hooded man fled after the attacker began to cry for assistance and a struggle. The perpetrator was promptly identified through the implementation of numerous investigative avenues.
Despite the numerous initial investigative endeavours, none of them initially produced conclusive results. Nevertheless, the victim’s personal circle was not involved in the investigation, and the focus was on a 55-year-old Spanish woman who had allegedly engaged in a conflict with the victim “some time ago,” although the exact date is not specified.
It was determined that the assailant attacked the victim when she was alone after waiting for her husband to leave the house, as a result of the investigation. She pounded on the door and charged at her, causing a severe injury to her neck. “The knife’s blade was discovered at the scene, and as fate would have it, the handle detached from the blade.” This circumstance is believed to have saved her life, according to investigators.
