Lifeguard contract suspended in Guardamar

Guardamar Beach

The town’s lifeguard service tender has been terminated by the Guardmar del Segura City Council. It took this action after identifying a number of mistakes in the specifications, such as the fact that the pricing offered did not account for the 2025 updated interprofessional minimum wage, which caused the contract budget to become out of balance. The Department of Contracting’s signed decree reflects this, stating that “a number of errors were noted in the specifications following questions posed by interested parties in the procedure through the Third Public Sector Contracting Platform.” The technical specifications document was draughted by a municipal technical engineer, who concluded in a report released on March 6, 2025, that “it is considered appropriate to review and modify, where appropriate, the content of the technical specifications document” in several areas.

The fact that “it becomes mandatory to update the remuneration of the workers who will provide the service due to the entry into force of the new minimum interprofessional wage for the year 2025” is one of the difficulties that has to be addressed. In a subsequent report, the City Council’s Deputy Secretary establishes the wisdom of “…retroacting the proceedings to the beginning of the file, specifically to the issuance of any document prior to the Specifications that contained information or data, or legislation that may be modified as a result of the information provided by the Technician.”

They will be released again in the upcoming days as a result of reversing the criteria and starting the bidding process.

Since the town’s bathing season lasts longer than just the summer, the service is set to start on June 15th and operate through October 15th. In order to help and facilitate bathing at Guardamar Beach for those with impairments and/or limited mobility, the contract includes an adapted bathing service.

These people are served on beaches by lifeguards who, accompanied by a family member, help anyone who asks for assistance taking a bath. Visitors with decreased mobility or those with physical or mental disabilities can take advantage of this service by using the City Council’s accessible bathing facility. All necessary chores are included in this aid so that consumers can take advantage of the facilities, including swimming in the sea. The service will be offered at La Roqueta Beach every day from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. from July 1st to August 31st.

The beaches at La Roqueta, dels Vivers, Moncayo, del Camp, and les Ortigues will all have first aid stations. The service has been divided into three time periods. From September 16, 2024, until September 30th, 2024, there will be a 15-day low season. Only the central first aid stations will be operational during the service’s 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. hours, which will be staffed by seven employees. The months of June and September will comprise the 31-day mid-season. The service will be available from September 1st, 2024, to September 15, 2024, and from June 15th, 2024, to June 30th, 2024. With 17 employees, the service will be available from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The July and August peak season, which runs from July 1st, 2024, to August 31st, 2024, will last 62 days. The hours of operation will be 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The number of employees will rise to forty-five at this time. Lastly, a last time frame known as the reactive health season will be defined. From October 1st to October 15th, 2024, it will run for 15 days. There will be three aquatic and health-related roles at Playa Centre to handle any accidents that may occur on the beach as part of this health care program. In the case of an emergency, this will be a reactionary service rather than a preventive one. As a result, they will be able to deploy in order to address any situations that may occur on the beaches. During this time, the City Council will have the authority to make decisions. The hours of operation will be 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Bins on Paseo de Levante are being renewed in Benidorm, increasing their capacity to 250 litres

Benidorm new bins

“A black metal model very similar to the current one but which increases the collection capacity from 100 to 250 litres,” said Luis Navarro, Councillor for Street Cleaning, of Benidorm City Council, which has started remodelling all of the trash cans along Paseo de Levante. In particular, the area between the intersection of Avenida Virgen del Sufragio and the end of Avenida de Madrid is where the new 250-liter rubbish bins are being placed. The area surrounding Plaza del Torrejó, which is smaller than the rest of the promenade, has a special installation of 100-litre rubbish bins.

According to Navarro, these bins are being renovated after the City Council “acquired 115 units, 65 of which hold 100 litres and 50 of which hold 250 litres, all of which are equipped with anti-vandalism systems.”

The 65 100-liter bins will be dispersed “between Paseo de Poniente and Avenida del Mediterráneo and the surrounding area,” while all of the high-capacity units will be placed on Paseo de Levante “because it’s the area of Benidorm where the greatest amount of waste is generated throughout the day.”

The mayor further stated that “all the waste bins removed from these locations will be relocated to other areas of Benidorm after being cleaned, repainted, and repaired, replacing any damaged or other models.” According to Navarro, the medium-term goal is “to implement a single model of waste bin throughout the city, with a black metal look and embossed with the Benidorm name.” He explained that “the new waste collection and street cleaning contract will include the supply and maintenance of waste bins throughout the city.”

For the fifth consecutive year, Alicante Airport has been named the best airport in Europe

Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández

Aena said in a statement that Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport, which handles 15 to 25 million passengers a year, has been named the Best European Airport in its category by the Airports Council International (ACI) for the quality of services it provides to its users.

Based on traveler feedback, these awards are a component of the ASQ program. The airport in Alicante has also received recognition for its consistent efforts over the years. It has been inducted into ACI’s roll of honour with the ‘ACI World Director General’s Roll of Excellence’ after achieving this distinction for the fifth time, having done so in 2018, 2019, 2022, and 2023.

El Hierro Airport is one of just 10 airports worldwide to have been awarded this designation in 2024. Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport “performed a number of actions within its airport quality plan last year in an effort to further improve the travel experience for all its users.”

Aena’s “Oli” chatbot for passenger assistance, the installation of a street art mural on the airfield to greet passengers, the opening of the first Sensory Room for travellers with autism spectrum disorders (ASD), and the expansion of its duty-free shop with new interactive and digital elements are a few of these.

“Staying ahead”

“In today’s rapidly evolving world where passenger experiences are higher than ever, airports must continually push the boundaries of service to stay ahead,” said ACI World Director General Justin Erbacci, who applauded the airport community at Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport.

The award, according to Laura Navarro, director of Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport, “encourages us to continue working and also represents support for the Aena team, which has demonstrated its commitment to improving services over the years, and for all the staff and institutions that carry out their work at the airport with great professionalism.”

The annual ACI World Customer Experience Summit and Exhibition, which will be hosted in Guangzhou, China, from September 8th–11th, 2025, will include the awards ceremony.

Four people who were wanted for sexually abusing children arrested

National Police Alicante Arrest

These four fugitives are wanted for rape, child abuse, and producing pornographic material. In the Netherlands, three of them who were wanted by Spain were taken into custody, while in Alicante, a fourth who was wanted by Dutch police was taken into custody.

The fugitive, who was apprehended in Alicante after being sought by Dutch officials, is accused of sexually abusing two girls, ages 11 and 13, and appearing in graphic recordings with children.

Since the arrested fugitives are wanted for serious sexual offences with alleged underage victims and, in this instance, a tight link between them, they are high-priority targets for the ENFAST Network.

Four sexual offenders who were evading punishment in Alicante and Groningen, the Netherlands, were apprehended concurrently by National Police officers and Dutch police in a coordinated operation. For rape, child abuse, and producing pedophilic content, these four fugitives are wanted. The Netherlands has detained three of them who were wanted by Spain, while Alicante has arrested a fourth who was wanted by Dutch officials. The fugitive, who is wanted by Dutch authorities, is accused of staring in excessively pornographic recordings with kids and sexually abusing two girls, ages 11 and 13.

Four fugitives wanted by Spain and the Netherlands for serious sexual offences involving children were identified, which sparked the inquiry.

The ENFAST Network’s activities showed that the fugitives were intimately tied to one another, and that the Dutch authorities sought one fugitive in Spain, while Spain wanted three others who might be in the Netherlands. The fugitives became high-priority targets for the ENFAST Network due to the heinousness of the crimes they were accused of committing, which included kids and severe violence against them.

While awaiting trial, the Málaga Provincial Court wanted one of the fugitives. For the alleged offences of continuous sexual abuse, sexual assault, and the creation of pornographic material involving kids who were 13 and 15 years old at the time of the occurrence in 2016, he is being pursued for a 34-year jail sentence.

For their 2015 offences, the other two fugitives—brothers who were also sought by the Málaga Provincial Court—were given ten years in prison. They met a young woman at the Málaga Fair, and together they committed the crimes of sexual assault, injury, and threats.

In the town of Zeist, the fourth suspect, who is currently wanted by Dutch authorities, sexually assaulted two girls, ages 11 and 13, whom he had entrusted to his care and custody in 2017. Additionally, he has been involved in recordings that featured highly harsh pedophilic content involving animals and children.

Arrests in the Netherlands and Spain at the same time

It was discovered that the Spanish fugitives were carrying documents in other people’s identities during a security operation that was launched after they were discovered in the Dutch town of Groningen. At the same time, the Dutch fugitive was apprehended in Alicante as he fled the house where he had sought sanctuary.
