With their wildly popular show, Cirque du Soleil – CORTEO is making a triumphant return to Spain.
You can see Cirque du Soleil – CORTEO in Barcelona from March 27 to April 6, 2025, at Palau Sant Jordi.
Cirque du Soleil’s most charming show in pavilions returns to Europe and will visit Spain to delight the public. This special show, directed by Daniele Finzi Pasca, first started in Montreal under the Big Top in April 2005. Since then, the show has impressed over 10 million people in 22 countries across 4 continents. Corteo will be in Barcelona and, for the first time, will also go to A Coruña and Pamplona.
Corteo is an Italian word that means parade. It is a happy celebration created by a clown. The show combines the actor’s enthusiasm with the skill and strength of acrobats to take the audience on a fun, comedic journey in a unique setting between heaven and earth.
The clown pictures his funeral happening at a funfair, with quiet guardian angels watching over it. The show contrasts big with small, silly with serious, and perfect with imperfect. It shows the clown’s strength and weakness, as well as his knowledge and kindness, to highlight what makes us all human. The music becomes fun and catchy as Corteo takes part in a party where fantasy plays with reality.
For the first time at Cirque du Soleil, the stage is in the middle of the arena, splitting the crowd in half. Each half faces the other, giving everyone a different view of the show and the performers. A unique environment that has never been seen before in Cirque du Soleil’s arena shows. The curtain set, inspired by the Eiffel Tower, along with the hand-painted centre curtains, creates a grand atmosphere on the stage. This establishes the mood for Corteo’s poems.
