A person who participated in a scam network called “Son in Trouble” was arrested in Benidorm.

The suspect is in charge of a call centre in the tourist city where a fraud with fictitious data was carried out once the terminal was activated. This kind of fraud involves con artists posing as the victim’s son, reaching out to her through text messages or instant messaging apps, and making an urgent demand for money.

Agents of the National Police assigned to the Badajoz, Madrid, and Benidorm police stations conducted the operation, and two individuals were taken into custody on suspicion of committing the crimes of fraud, money laundering, document forgery, and usurpation of marital status.

The investigation started after a 64-year-old woman in Badajoz filed a complaint alleging that she had been duped by individuals posing as her daughter, who persuaded him that he had issues with his cell phone and that he urgently needed me to send 4,000 euros, to which I consented.

When they later requested a fresh payment of 4,985 euros, she became suspicious and realised it was a scam.

Using the phone numbers and bank account information of the transaction’s beneficiary, agents from the Brigade provincial of Badajoz’s technological crimes group conducted an investigation into this crime.

The receiving account’s owner was clearly recognised by the agents

A man based in Madrid was the source of the stolen funds, so they forwarded this information to the Madrid-Tetuán Police Station, where they arrested him on charges of money laundering and fraud.

They also confirmed that the owner of the phone used to send messages to the victim, posing as the victim’s daughter, was a Cordoba man who had previously complained about usurping his civil status, making him another scammer victim.

The phone had been registered and activated using a fictitious identity, identifying the point of sale at a Benidorm call centre that was operated by a man with a comparable criminal history. Using the information supplied, the Benidorm Police Station agents detained him for falsifying documents.

Both the hitman and the son in trouble scams were areas of expertise for the organisation. Along its roughly 20 km of coastline, Dénia City Council wants to offer a full range of services on the beaches. The contract to add six new rental stations for hammocks, shade, pedal boats, canoes, kayaks, and paddleboards has just gone out to bid. Only three beach service lots were awarded in the previous year’s tender, which also included the beach bars: the aquatic platform at Punta del Raset, the Raset paddle and kayak stand, and the hammock stand in front of the Los Ángeles Hotel.

The new tender is expected to cost 58,500 euros in total this summer.

The woman’s defence team will present medical records to demonstrate that the suspect has a depressive illness that could have contributed to the incident. The case is open for animal mistreatment.

“Max,” who was under two years old, and “Bimba,” who was born seven years ago, were the two dogs who perished after being thrown from an eighth-floor flat. Both were Yorkshire terriers, and their owner admitted to the arresting officers that she threw them away because she was sick of taking them outside to urinate, and it was always her turn, despite her insistence in court that she couldn’t recall what had happened.

The event happened on Calle Sol Naciente Street in the Albufereta area of Alicante at approximately 1:00 p.m. on Sunday 23rd March. Two bystanders who saw the incident alerted the alarm. At first, they spotted one of the two dogs and a woman flinging dog supplies, including a bed and a leash, from an eighth-floor window. When one of the witnesses heard something hit the ground he realised it was a small dog, even though he initially thought it was a stuffed animal. After that, she threw the second dog, and both of them died instantaneously when they hit the ground.

Mobile phone recordings of the incident have been included in the National Police’s investigation. Officers were informed by one witness that the woman in custody had earlier caused trouble and thrown some turtles from her house.

Comments have been made against the woman who was arrested for killing her pets on social media, pointing to a 2023 video in which she is seen “enjoying ‘Bimba’ and our new puppy ‘Max’.” Using her picture and home information, social media users have also called for “social justice” and to stop her from stepping outside. Because she works for the city, some have also called for the Alicante City Council to take some sort of action against her.

Additionally, a platform has created a petition calling for justice for Bimba and Max, two Yorkshire terriers, and a society where all animals are “treated with the compassion and respect they deserve.”
