Two men arrested by Elche Local Police following a knife fight

Elche Local Police

On Thursday afternoon, 22nd March, a fight occurred in the Plaza del Congreso Eucarístico in Elche, next to the Basilica of Santa María. As a consequence, two young men were apprehended, and at least two others were identified.

A knife was even brandished during the street altercation in which the four were involved. Those who have been arrested are facing charges of making severe threats with a knife.

Shortly prior to 5:00 p.m., an altercation ensued. The local police were informed by a witness, and they promptly dispatched multiple units to the location.

It is believed that the altercation originated over an electric scooter. One of the detainees had loaned the other one a scooter, and he was requesting its return after claiming that it had not been returned.

Six years in prison for trying to hire a hitman

Alicante Provisional Court

The Alicante Provincial Court has sentenced a man to six years in prison for offering 7,000 to 10,000 euros to acquaintances in exchange for the murder of his ex-partner in Torrevieja.

The defendant admitted the facts during his statement at the High Court trial yesterday, Monday 24th March, after reaching an agreement with the prosecution, granting a reduction in the initially requested sentence of 13 and a half years, despite the aggravating circumstance of family ties being applied.

Following the acknowledgement of the facts, the First Section court in charge of prosecuting the case announced an early verdict on the terms agreed upon by the prosecution and defence.

The actions in question occurred in June 2022, when the defendant promised four people between 7,000 and 10,000 euros to kill the woman he had been in a relationship with for six years in Torrevieja.

According to the prosecution, the defendant corresponded with the many persons he intended to pay to murder his wife via mobile messaging apps such as WhatsApp and Telegram in order to maintain greater anonymity. During these chats, he offered half the money to the alleged hitmen before they committed the crime.

The defendant’s ex-partner and victim testified at the hearing, indicating that she learnt of the defendant’s plans from one of the individuals the defendant reportedly contacted.

“She told me she had become my friend so she could know where I was at all times and that she was paid for it,” she said just before the defendant used his right to the last word to apologise and that he was “very sorry.”

In addition to the prison sentence, the plea deal included a seven-year prohibition at a distance of more than 300 metres and the termination of parental rights over the defendant’s minor daughter, whom he shared with the victim.

Arrests for intimidating witnesses

Alicante National Police

Three men have been arrested by National Police for threatening and abusing two young men in order to persuade them to change their testimony during a police inquiry.

The police inquiry began after a young man complained to officers that he had been beaten and intimidated by three acquaintances in order to induce him to withdraw a statement he had given to police in Benidorm on an investigation in which they were involved.

One of the attackers recorded the attack on a cell phone and threatened to use a knife to harm the victim’s buddy who was present at the time to prevent him from intervening.

Days before the incident, one of the perpetrators sent the victim many threats via a mobile messaging app, threatening to attack her if she did not change her statement. This made the victim extremely apprehensive and fearful of encountering these people on the street.

Another victim was attacked for the exact same reason

During the inquiry, authorities discovered a second complaint from another victim who had been threatened to falsify his statement before being surprised on the street and assaulted by a man who was also connected to the Benidorm investigation into the other accused.

Once all of the information about the incident had been gathered, officers from the Alicante Northern District Police Station’s Judicial Police group conducted a series of checks, which resulted in the complete identification of the three perpetrators of the first attack, as well as the perpetrator of the second victim. All of them were men aged 20 to 22.

Officers eventually discovered three of the perpetrators, who were arrested for alleged bodily harm and obstruction of justice.

Agents are working to locate and apprehend the other suspect in the event.

Following police investigations, the inmates were hauled before the Alicante Court of First Instance for duty.
