Plaza de la Constitución

In the heart of the town centre in Torrevieja is Plaza de la Constitución, a paved square which is also the location of the town hall, and one of the two main churches in Torrevieja.

Dressed in palm trees and bougainvillea, the square also hosts major events within the open space, such as the nativity scene at Christmas, and numerous protests by those wishing to raise their concerns publicly, whether political or sociological, and events that bring the entire international community of Torrevieja together.

The square itself was born when there were no more than a few houses grouped on the periphery of an Old Tower. It was one of the many areas destroyed by the 1829 Torrevieja earthquake.
