Festivals in Javea

Jávea (Xàbia), a charming coastal town, celebrates a vibrant calendar of festivals, reflecting its rich cultural heritage and community spirit. From religious processions to lively fiestas, there’s always a reason to celebrate.  

One of the most anticipated events is the Fiestas of Jesús Nazareno, held in late April and early May. This celebration features bull-running (bous al carrer), parades, and religious processions, culminating in a spectacular fireworks display. It’s a deeply rooted tradition that showcases the town’s devotion.  

The Fiestas of Moors and Christians (Moros i Cristians) in July is another highlight. This historical reenactment commemorates the battles between Moors and Christians during the Reconquista. Elaborate costumes, parades, and mock battles fill the streets with color and excitement.

The Fiestas of Mare de Déu del Loreto in late August and early September is a unique celebration centered around the port. This maritime festival includes bull-running in the sea (bous a la mar), where participants try to encourage bulls into the water, followed by a lively atmosphere with music and dancing.  

San Juan (Sant Joan) in June marks the summer solstice with bonfires on the beaches, music, and traditional food. It’s a magical night where locals and visitors gather to celebrate the arrival of summer.  

Beyond these major events, Jávea hosts numerous smaller festivals and cultural events throughout the year. These include musical performances, art exhibitions, and local fiestas celebrating patron saints.
