Elche residents rescued after a fire caused by an electric scooter

A violent fire in a residence was caused by an electric scooter battery at Calle Pablo Picasso in Elche, which sparked a scare. According to consortium sources, the blaze engulfed the five-story structure, necessitating the evacuation of ten inhabitants and affecting six properties.
A 56-year-old neighbour suffered from carbon inhalation, while a 26-year-old firefighter was injured by the flames. The residence from which the fire originated was entirely consumed by flames, which rapidly advanced to the upper floors, necessitating the evacuation of the third to fifth floors by firefighters.
The incident transpired shortly before 2:30 a.m. on Thursday morning. April 10th. The Emergency Information and Coordination Centre subsequently issued a fire notice for a block of flats located at Calle Pablo Picasso 38 in Elche. A command post unit, two heavy urban fire engines, and a fire ladder vehicle were employed to extinguish the fire at the scene. Additionally, eight firefighters from the Elche and Crevillente fire stations were dispatched.
The Alicante Provincial Fire Consortium (CPB) elucidates that the fire originated in the battery of an electric scooter, resulting in “a significant amount of smoke” and “complete damage” to the residence. Residents were evacuated from the first two floors due to the fire’s severity, while up to 10 individuals were rescued from the third, fourth, and fifth floors.
After more than two hours of labour, firefighters were able to suppress the flames at 4:12 a.m. Smoke poisoning caused by the fire necessitated medical attention for four residents during the incident. Furthermore, one of the firefighters necessitated treatment for a dislocated shoulder.
Two Basic Life Support ambulances, a SAMU (Medical Emergency Unit), and a TNA (Teaching and Rescue) were dispatched to the location. Three of the five injured were transported to Elche General Hospital, while the remaining individual was transported to Vinalapó Hospital.

A car burns in Crevillent and almost causes a forest fire

Emergency services were mobilised yesterday morning, Tuesday May 7th, in Crevillent due to a fire that originated within a vehicle. The flames eventually spread to the pine forest adjacent to the road to Los Molinos. The dispatched teams’ prompt response was instrumental in the successful containment of the fire and the prevention of additional damage to this highly valuable forest area.
The blaze in the burnt-out vehicle was successfully extinguished by fire personnel from the Crevillent and Elche fire stations, thereby preventing the flames from spreading further into the surrounding countryside.
The fire, which caused alarm among residents due to the presence of sirens and visible smoke from various points in the municipality, has been stabilised as a result of a coordinated effort between firefighters, the Crevillent Local Police, the Guardia Civil, and forestry officers from the Valencia Regional Government.
The intervention was designed to prevent the fire from advancing to the pine forest that borders the Los Molinos trail, a region that is frequently visited by both tourists and residents. The prompt response brought the situation under control without any injuries.

12 years in prison for the guard at a mental health centre in Elda who sexually assaulted a patient

Yesterday, Wednesday May 7th, a guard at a mental health centre in Elda was sentenced to 12 years in prison and ordered to pay 12,000€ compensation for the periodic sexual assault of a patient.
According to the Valencian High Court of Justice (TSJCV), the prosecution accuses him of committing a continuous crime of sexual assault with penetration. The court has stated that he is accused of intermittently entering the user’s bedroom and sexually assaulting her.
During the summer of 2021 and June 2022, the defendant, according to the prosecution, exploited night shifts and entered the victim’s room on a weekly basis. The victim has been diagnosed with an illness that impairs her ability to exert her will.
The TSJCV stated that the man, who is alleged to be fully cognisant of the woman’s diagnosis, informed her on numerous occasions that she would deeply regret it if she disclosed the situation to anyone.
