With the help of the Local Police of Almoradí, the Guardia Civil has arrested five people between the ages of 19 and 31 who are thought to have been involved in a string of robberies with force and violence in vehicles and businesses in the area.
The five people who were arrested were charged with robbery with violence and intimidation, robbery with force, being part of a criminal group, and receiving stolen goods (getting things that you know are stolen and using them). The Court of Instruction No. 2 of Orihuela, having already prosecuted them for similar crimes, ordered their release with caution.
The Alicante Guardia Civil Command’s press office said that on October 28th, after more allegations of robberies were received from other parts of the municipality, agents from the Investigation Area of the Guardia Civil of Almoradí started looking into what happened.
The investigators built a special surveillance device to find and identify the criminals because of the nature of the crimes. They got help from the Almoradí Local Police, whose cooperation was crucial to the success of the operation.
During one of the control patrols, a few officers in plain clothes caught two of the suspects in the act of getting into a parked car and arrested them right then and there.
The arrests happened after months of rising worry about recurrent crimes and a meeting of the local security board with the mayor and the Government Sub-delegation.
The first arrests gave police new information that helped them find winning “Scratch and Win” lottery tickets, cash, and other stolen goods. The owners have already received some of these items back. “These events made it possible to find and arrest the other three members of the group in the next few days,” the same sources said this Thursday.
The group worked together in a planned and repeated way, with each member having a distinct role. Investigators were also able to connect the inmates to robberies that happened at other establishments in Almoradí, where the owners were threatened and beaten.
With this move, the Guardia Civil emphasises its commitment to the battle against property crimes, “highlighting the effectiveness of coordination between police forces and the importance of citizen collaboration in detecting criminal acts.” The investigators built a special surveillance device to find and identify the criminals because of the nature of the crimes. Concern
These arrests happen at a time when people are becoming more worried about the surge in petty theft, which is leading to protests calling for more protection. The Popular Party’s leaders know about this since Mayor María Gómez uploaded a video on social media on Wednesday saying that they are aware of the situation and that they are working to stop the crime wave.
In her message, the regional deputy also says that robberies and street fights have gone up in the last few months. However, the Civil Guard of Almoradí and the Local Police, with help from the National Police, have “identified a very small group of people” who are involved in these crimes, and some of them are now in custody.
Gómez said that a meeting of local security officials was conducted not long ago to work with the Government Sub-delegation on how to stop these kinds of crimes. Some of the arrests happened at a house in the occupied orchard, which has since been boarded up. Gómez said that “some” people, referring to Vox without identifying the party, have been putting a “political and catastrophic” spin on these events. This is typical of this far-right group, which is blaming migrants in general terms for what happened.
The mayor said they are working to keep the streets safe and, as she put it, the “coexistence” that has long been a part of this town of 22,000 people.
