The Spanish Agency for Food Safety (Aesan) has cautioned that certain batches of seven sliced chilled beef products from the company Cárnicas Serrano may contain listeria. The company has already pulled these goods from the market as a precaution.
The affected products are: “chopped can of thin slices” (150 grammes), which is packaged sliced and kept cold. The Nuestra Alacena brand is sold by DIA, and the Aesan doesn’t say where the other brands are sold, but they are available at other stores.
The other brands include Serrano, which makes “truffled turkey with pistachios,” La Tabla, which makes “turkey mortadella with olives,” and La Tabla, which makes “chopped turkey” and “maxi turkey” and “maxi york.”
The Aesan website has the batch numbers and the date the product will no longer be good.
No cases that are good
Cárnicas Serrano sources said that “there have been no positive cases (of affected consumers) among the products listed” and that “their withdrawal was carried out as a preventive measure.”
Communities that are independent
Aesan says that they have been sent to the autonomous communities of Andalusia, Asturias, Cantabria, Castilla-La Mancha, Castilla y León, Extremadura, the Community of Madrid, the Basque Country, and the Valencian Community. However, it is possible that they will be sent to other autonomous communities as well.
For the product “Nuestra Alacena,” which was the subject of an alert last week, sources from the DIA distribution chain have said “that as a precaution and in accordance with the usual protocol set by the administration, the batch of the indicated product has been taken out of its stores.”
Suggestions
Aesan has told those who have the products listed in the notice at home not to eat them.
If you have eaten any of the items from the impacted batches and have symptoms like vomiting, diarrhoea, or fever, you should go to a health centre.
The agency also stressed the need to take extra hygienic measures to avoid cross-contamination with other items. They also encouraged pregnant women to check food safety guidelines for foods to avoid.
