The Regional Police Unit of the Andalusian Regional Government looked into the mother who was accused of selling her infant for 3,000 euros. They found that she had already been probed for trying to do the same thing with another child.
While looking into the most recent case, officers found out that the mother had been looked into before for similar things with another baby, but not in Málaga; it was in a different Spanish region. The Guardia Civil did the inquiry.
This time, the problem came to light when the woman gave birth alone at home and called for help, which sent the emergency medical services to the house. In their report, the ambulance crew talked about how filthy the property was, especially since it was going to be the home of a newborn.
The Andalusian Regional Government’s Child Protection Services looked into the situation again after the intervention. This included a second report from the Costa del Sol Hospital, where the woman and infant were taken. Sources said that the mother said she wanted to give the baby up for adoption since she couldn’t keep custody.
However, the testing on the newborn showed that the condition was the worse. The same sources said that the newborn tested positive for drugs (a narcotic), which made people quite worried about the mother.
When the matter got to the local police, they decided to talk to the mother to find out more about the baby’s position and family life. They noticed “irregularities and contradictions” in what they were saying, so they went to the Civil Registry for help.
She was shocked to find out that the child was registered as the daughter of the suspected man and a man with whom she had no relationship or family ties, even though they lived in the same town. It was evident what the investigation was about: finding out why he was identified as the child’s father.
Police investigations showed that the man and his partner had been attempting to get pregnant for a while but were having trouble doing so naturally. It seems that she knew the baby’s real mother.
The same reports say that the woman said she knew the infant wouldn’t be well cared for, which is why they offered to take her in. The police investigation showed that the deal reportedly included giving the mother 3,000 euros.
After gathering all the evidence, the police looked into the people involved for allegedly committing the crime of document forgery. They took the baby away and put her in a foster home, where she is being cared for and protected, according to the police statement.
