A peacock in the Reina Sofía municipal park in Guardamar del Segura, Alicante, has been found to have avian flu.
The Mayor of the PSPV-PSOE, José Luis Sáez, posted on social media that the analytical tests showed that avian flu was the cause of death. As a result, the eradication strategy that was established in conjunction with the relevant authorities has been put into action.
The city government has put up signs in Reina Sofía Park and on Avenida del Ingeniero Mira adjacent that say people can’t feed or water the birds. This is because there is a very small chance of spreading the disease to people if they come into direct touch with the birds.
Guardamar del Segura is also emptying and cleaning the lakes in the municipal areas, setting up confinement zones, and getting rid of species at the same time.
