According to officials from the Guardia Civil in a statement, they have arrested seven members of a travelling criminal organisation in San Javier (Murcia) on suspicion of stealing expensive technology items valued at over 7,000 euros from a Cartagena shopping centre.
In addition to the stolen goods, the investigation, which is a component of Operation “Notte,” has made it possible to recover about 3,000 pounds sterling, twelve mobile phones, and a variety of jewellery and apparel items.
The operation started after computer equipment were stolen from a Cartagena shopping centre store. The investigation was handled by experts in the Guardia Civil’s Judicial Police, who gathered video from the store’s surveillance cameras.
Four individuals who seemed to have coordinated their moves within the premises were visible in the photos. Some served as ‘bait,’ diverting the attention of the security guards, while others took the goods and slipped away.
Some of the individuals were identified through the examination of the information gathered, and it was discovered that they had a lengthy criminal history for committing this kind of theft in other municipalities within the Region of Murcia as well as other locations across the country.
The inmates are members of a criminal organisation that originated in Chile and travelled to Spain, usually via Italy, according to the investigation. They stole goods from well-known brands that were readily sold on the black market after arriving in Spain.
The inquiry turned up a number of addresses that the suspects reportedly utilised to travel from while committing their crimes.
When the agents concluded that a rental home in the Mar Menor town of San Javier seemed to be the group’s base of operations, the many monitoring and investigation tools worked as intended.
Seven individuals, four men and three women, of Chilean nationality and in an irregular position in Spain were arrested as a result of the Guardia Civil’s recent police deployment to conduct the house search.
The house was seized with about €7,000, £3,000, and multiple mobile phones. Additionally, clothing and jewellery were found, some of which still had security tags attached.
