Díaz announces resignation after EU election performance

Yolanda Díaz has resigned as leader of Sumar after the party failed to secure a seat on Sunday’s European Parliamentary elections.

Díaz, who will remain as Minister of Labour and second vice president of the government, took personal responsibility for the defeat.

The resignation was confirmed during a three-hour Sumar Executive meeting.

A group of 80 members will propose a successor within two weeks.
