Elderly man drowns on Costa Blanca

A 77-year-old man has died after getting into trouble in the waters off of the Costa Blanca.

Rescuers pulled the body of the out of the water at La Roqueta beach near Alicante on Saturday.

According to officials it became the site of the fourth drowning in the region in just 48 hours.

This followed an incident on Friday where a British and a Polish man died attempting to rescue a number of stranded children.

So far this month 9 people have lost their lives in the seas in the region.
