The Costa Blanca’s mainstays are sun, sea, and sangria, particularly in the summer. However, I am all too familiar with the struggle to prevent your makeup from slipping off your face by midday. Mastering sweat-proof makeup is crucial, regardless of whether you’re a year-round resident or just visiting to experience the Mediterranean vibes. The proper techniques can make the difference between a complete makeup meltdown and a fresh, glowing look when temperatures rise and humidity levels are high. Even in the Costa Blanca heat, here’s how to stay looking stunning at sunset dinners and beach bars.
Starting with a chill (literally) is my first and most important piece of advice. Believe me when I say that a chilled face roller or a cold rinse is heaven-sent for your skin before you even consider applying makeup! Before applying any product, it not only feels fantastic on the skin but also aids in pore closure and sweat reduction.

Additionally, prime time is crucial; I strongly advise applying a mattifying, perspiration-resistant primer. (Check back soon for my post about suggested sweat-proof items.) To help your makeup stick without clogging your pores, it’s best to look for ingredients like glycerin or silica. Simply consider it the sun cream for your makeup; without it, things will slide.
Go light or go home! By this, I mean that it’s time to switch from thick foundations to tinted moisturisers or SPF-containing BB creams for the summer. It is less likely to melt or cake on your face if the base is lighter. If it’s breathable and water-based, you’ll be even luckier. In this heat, wearing full coverage is like wearing a wool jumper—don’t do that on your face!
When sweat is involved, powders tend to become patchy, so cream products will be your best friends. Make use of bronzers and cream blushes that complement your skin tone the best. Rather than simply resting on your face, they both move with it. A sun-kissed cream bronzer and a peachy cream blush are a surefire combination.

Transparent powder is another essential that I must mention, but only in areas that are sweat-proof, such as your T-zone, under your eyes, and around your nose. In humid weather, overpowdering can definitely make your face look cakey quickly.
It’s also important to remember that your brow, eyeliner, and mascara products must all be waterproof; otherwise, you run the risk of looking like a raccoon by lunchtime. Particularly if you’re walking in the square or going to the beach in temperatures above thirty degrees.
A long-wearing setting spray should then be used to complete the look. Items with the titles “matte finish” or “climate control” are your best bets! Hours or little effort can then be locked in with a few spritzes. Applying a little lip gloss will make you look flawless and radiant as you prepare to face the Costa Blanca heat!
