Rosa Cañón, Torrevieja City Councillor for Public Health, José Antonio GarcÃa Navarro, Director of Public Health at the Orihuela Health Department, and Zumba instructor Verónica Pedrosa have presented the “Guardians of the Skin” Campaign, with an early detection day for skin cancer on Saturday, May 31st from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at La Mata Beach (Avenida de los Europeos). This day is organised by the Torrevieja City Council and the Spanish Group of Cancer Patients (GEPAC) as a lead-up to World Skin Cancer Day on June 13th.
On Saturday, dermatologists, coordinated by GEPAC manager Marcos MartÃnez, will set up a tent on La Mata beach to provide information and care to attendees, emphasising the necessity of sun protection and promoting skin cancer prevention.
The day will also include Zumba lessons taught by Verónica Pedrosa and her team of trainers. Pedrosa emphasised the importance of bringing sunscreen, water, a hat, and a willingness to exercise to the beach that day.
Lastly, the Councillor for Public Health underscored the significance of early cancer detection, pointing out that 86% of melanomas are treatable and curable.
