As the sun-drenched days of August come to an end, a familiar shift takes place on the Costa Blanca. The thrilling slides and lazy rivers of the region’s water parks, a summer staple for families, are about to close for the season. This annual tradition marks a clear transition from the summer holidays to the start of the new school year.
Many of the area’s most popular water parks, including Aqualandia Benidorm and Aquopolis Torrevieja, will close their doors in September. Aqualandia’s final day is September 28th, 2025, while Aquopolis’ season ends on September 7th, 2025. The closure of these iconic attractions coincides with the “back to school” dates across Spain, which typically occur in early to mid-September.

This seasonal closure is a logical response to decreased demand and a shift in staffing availability. As students and teachers return to their classrooms, the number of potential visitors decreases significantly. Furthermore, many of the parks’ summer staff, who are often high school and university students, return to school, making it difficult to maintain full operations.
While the end of the water park season may mean the end of summer fun for some, it also marks the beginning of a new chapter. The quiet slides are an apt metaphor for the end of a long, carefree vacation, as families exchange their swimsuits and towels for books and backpacks.

With the water park season coming to an end, it’s a great time to reflect on the joy and excitement of summer. The memories of thrilling rides and splash-filled days will last until the parks reopen next year, ready to welcome another season of adventure.
