If you live in or visit Rojales (including Cuidad Quesada), this week’s holiday schedule is busier than usual! The region is celebrating two major holidays, and Rojales is adding a third local day, resulting in widespread closures throughout the Southern Costa Blanca.
This is your essential guide to the “Red Days”. What they are and what will be closed, including shopping malls such as La Zenia Boulevard.

The Local Red Day: Rojales Takes Tuesday Off
Tomorrow is a holiday for residents and visitors in the municipality of Rojales. The Virgen del Rosario, or Local Feast Day, is celebrated on Tuesday, October 7th. This is a municipal holiday in Rojales. All major shops, banks, and local council offices in Rojales and its surrounding communities will be closed.
Important note for Rojales: The popular Thursday Market will still take place on Thursday, October 9th (Valencian Community Day), but the ttown centre is likely to be very quiet tomorrow.

The Regional & National Red Days: Valencia and Spain
The entire Valencian Community, including the Costa Blanca, will observe two more public holidays this week, resulting in widespread closure.
- Thursday, October 9th, is Day of the Valencian Community. This regional holiday commemorates the founding of the Kingdom of Valencia in 1238. It is a day of historic and cultural celebrations.
- Sunday, October 12th, National Day of Spain. This national holiday commemorates Christopher Columbus’ arrival in the Americas in 1492.
Shopping centres (including La Zenia Boulevard), banks, post offices, supermarkets, and public offices will all be closed on both these days.
The Great Exception: Restaurants and Bars
The good news is that the region’s restaurants, bars, and cafes generally remain OPEN! The hospitality sector thrives on public holidays as locals have the day off.
For some advice, do all of your major grocery and retail shopping by the end of Monday, October 6th, in preparation for the Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday closings.
Enjoy your extended holiday break on the Costa Blanca!
