Torrevieja and the wider Orihuela Costa community are home to a vibrant charitable force known as The Pink Ladies and Panthers. Far from a single event, this dedicated group is a registered charity and a constant source of support, awareness, and crucial fundraising for the right against cancer, primarily on behalf of the ACC in the Alicante province.
Founded by Maria Wilson, a cancer survior herself, the organisation has grown since 2010 into a powerhouse of Voulnteers who are committed to donating 100% of proceeds directly to the cause, with all team members giving their time completely free of charge.

More Than Just Fundraisers: The Mission
The core mission of the Pink Ladies and Panthers revolves around two vital areas
- Early Detection and Screening: They actively promote the message that ‘The best Cure is an Early Detection.’ offering a much-needed service to book subsidised cancer screenings. They guide individuals to local clinics and assist with the follow-up appointments, making essential checks more accessible to the community.
- Support and Advice: The group runs a support hub and offers a confidential line for those who need advice, emotional support, or even practical help, such as providing wigs for ladies undergoing chemotherapy. They ensure that no one has to face their diagnosis alone.

Major Annual Events
While the group is involved in numerous smaller community fundrasiers throughout the year, they are renowed for several high-profile annual events that draw huge crowds:
- The ‘Walk for Life.’: A highlight in the calendar, this walk typically sees hundreds of people dressed in vibrant pink taking to the promenades, to show solidarity, raise awareness, and collect funds. It’s a powerful visual demonstration of the community’s support.
- Breast Cancer Awareness Day Event: Often held in a major local venue like Zenia Boulevad during Breast Cancer Awareness Months in October, this day is packed with entertainment. It usually includes live music, dance performances, raffles, and the activities for children, all designed to raise money and educate the public on the importance of self-checks and screening.
These large-scale events, along with continuous small-scale efforts like coffee mornings, sponsored challenges, and themed parties, are the lifeblood of the organisations, allowing them to continue providing their essential, life saving services to residents across the Costa Blanca
The Pink Ladies and Panthers stand as a shining example of community spirit, turning a personal struggle into a source of hope and tangible support for countless individuals and families affected by cancer in the Torrevieja area.
