While visiting the “Pride of the Community” space—representing the Valencian Community in Fitur’s LGBT+ pavilion—at the International Tourism Fair (Fitur) in Madrid, Susana Camarero made this statement.
The visit included an analysis of the planned implementation of the Protocol of Open Spaces for LGBTIQ+phobia by Camarero and Stephane Soriano, the general director of diversity, in collaboration with other associations.
According to Camarero, “the Protocol constitutes a pioneering measure that will serve to identify, recognise and certify spaces free of discrimination for LGTBIQ+ people.”
Furthermore, he stated that “in this way the image of an open, respectful, welcoming Valencian society is strengthened, in which people from all over the world, who are looking for tourist destinations, can feel truly loved, free and respected” .
Camarero added that “with this initiative, the Valencian Community takes a new step towards equality and turns us into a fairer, more dignified, freer and more humane society, being an example of social progress” .
The Generalitat will formally unveil it on February 1, 2025, as part of Benidorm Fest.
Let us not forget that the ‘Pride of the Community’ label is a component of a larger effort to raise awareness of the need of fostering a welcoming and accepting community in the Valencian Area.
As a symbol of the Generalitat, it seeks to bring together diversity initiatives with the common goal of increasing visibility and acceptance of the LGTBIQ+ community.
