The National Police caught a man aged 44 at the Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport. The Turkish government issued an International Arrest Warrant for Extradition for drug trafficking crimes. If he is found guilty, he could face up to 30 years in jail. The man who was caught is now in the care of the Central Court of Instruction of the National Court.
The suspect was spotted when his passport was shown. He had come from England on a flight. He was wanted for crimes that happened in Turkey in October 2007. The wanted person was part of a well-organised group that made, transported, and sold drugs. He was accused, along with other people, of taking part in drug trafficking and the foreign drug trade.
The investigation showed that the suspect bought over 23,600 kg of heroin from someone else and hid it in a truck that was carrying textiles. The drugs that were hidden in the car were found when it was being inspected in a Turkish town. In addition to the drug, the police took away 1,450 euros and 5,000 Turkish liras because they were linked to the drug deal.
