Three men and a woman were caught in Alicante and Elche by agents from the National Police and the Customs Surveillance Agency. They are suspected of being part of a network that brings in illegal immigrants. All of the people being held are from Algeria and are between the ages of 40 and 43. Police say they were going to Algeria by sea on a semi-rigid boat that they used to move illegal immigrants for between 6,000 and 10,000 euros.
Both the National Police and Customs Surveillance got information that a group of people from Algeria might be buying fast boats to take people from the coast of Algeria to Spain. This led to the start of the probe.
As part of their investigation, police found a car in Elche (Alicante) pulling a seven-meter-long semi-rigid boat. The engine on this boat had 250 horsepower, which is more power than is allowed by existing rules.
