The Torrevieja health department’s Platform for 100% Public and Quality Health has spoken out against the disparity in per capita investment between the department and the rest of Valencia. Without accounting for the seasonal population boom, the platform claims that the region’s health department receives €560 less per capita than the rest of the Valencian Community. They call it a “flagrant grievance.”
Simultaneously, this platform criticises the public administration for not investing enough, resulting in delays and never-ending waiting lists, which creates an ideal environment for private healthcare to thrive.
Three months ago, the platform approached the government of Valencia to ask for more funding for the department, with the support of about 6,000 signatures. In addition, it has asked to meet with the Minister so that it can express its demands in person.
It is not a coincidence that this department’s health care system is in such a sorry state. A strong political will is responsible for it. The platform denounces the unfair treatment of Torrevieja and calls for health care equality for all of Valencia.
