The Calpe Town Council and the Directorate General of Police have agreed to put in a Documentatis Update Point (DUP) on the first floor of the Town Hall. This is a device that lets people update electronic certificates and change the access codes that go with them.
Up until now, you had to go to the police office in Dénia or Benidorm to renew your digital certificate. The national identity card is renewed every five or ten years, based on the person’s age. However, the digital certificate that goes with it expires every three years, which means that you have to travel to renew it.
The PAD is a terminal with a touch screen and a keyboard that lets you quickly refill the DNI keys without having to go anywhere. Users will be able to refresh DNI certificates and change the access data on electronic certificates at this Documentation Update point.
For renewing electronic certificates, the person who holds the document must be in person, and their identity must be confirmed by reading their electronic ID card and biometric templates (fingerprints), which are taken when the ID card is issued. This person can then start the process of renewing their electronic certificates or changing their access password on their own.
Because the height can be changed, they can also be used by people who have trouble moving around. Access is granted through an electronic ID card (a real card) and a fingerprint reader. They are free to use and don’t require an appointment.
