There can never be violence in any sector, but it is much less acceptable in sports, especially in youth divisions where kids are the main characters and are supposed to learn sports principles. Regretfully, there have been two recent instances of violence during juvenile football games in our area of Vega Baja. The city councils and the general public have swiftly responded to these episodes by denouncing them on social media.
Following the youth football game between Torrevieja CF B and CF Rafal at the Estaban Rosado field on February 15th, the first of these events took place. In order to prevent a more serious disaster, a Torrevieja footballer had to leave the changing room after being viciously attacked by a group of people.
This past weekend saw the other violent occurrence. During the Bigastro team’s game at the Luis Rocamora field in Benferri, a father and a number of his players attacked the Bigastro CF cadet coach. A pair of Civil Guard members and a basic life support ambulance had to arrive on the scene to treat the injured coach after the attack, which happened in front of around 40 kids playing their 8-a-side football games.
