The number of properties in Elche that have been converted into homes has doubled in the past 12 months

Online sales have caused companies to close and the spaces they once inhabited to become vacant, which has given Elche a chance to address its severe housing need.

The number of licenses for converting properties into dwellings has risen in the past 12 months. Nearly 250 ground-floor homes have been outfitted in the neighbourhoods since 2023, with the Plà-sector V and Carrús communities receiving the most licenses.

The governing team notes that increased growth from the third quarter of 2023 has been made possible by the simplification of the deadlines for awarding this kind of licence. They also caution that the areas of Torrellano, el Altet, la Hoya, la Marina, and Arenales are also experiencing a spike in this activity.
