Tomorrow’s Elche Carnival won’t take place. Following the State Meteorological Agency’s (Aemet) announcement yesterday that an Atlantic front will bring ample rain, albeit with moderate intensity, to the entire province of Alicante over the weekend, the celebration of this festival was in jeopardy.
Elche City Council said today that the events scheduled for this Saturday, March 1st, in Plaça de Baix are cancelled due to the forecast of cloudy skies, rain, severe wind gusts, and a drop in temperature to about 13º.
Municipal sources have verified that no other date is being considered to move the event to the upcoming weeks, therefore this is a final cancellation. In this regard, the contest’s awards ceremony, sing-along, photocall with kid-friendly characters, and kids’ party featuring inflatables and workshops will not take place in 2025.
With this choice, Elche joins other Alicante cities like Benidorm, whose festivities have also been impacted by the storm. As a result, the Carnival’s signature colours, festivities, music and costumes will have to wait until next year to once more enchant, delight and have fun in Elche’s streets.
