Over the past two months, the Novelda Local Police have issued thirteen fines for unlawful rubbish disposal on city streets as well as in rural and natural regions.
The total sum of the penalty levied exceeds 750 euros.
The City Council has emphasised that there is now more intense monitoring of these spills. There are signs alerting people to their illegality in the locations where they typically occur. Furthermore, video cameras have been placed in specific locations, such as the vicinity of the sanctuary and its parking lot.
Rubén Millán, Novelda’s Environment Councillor, has urged citizens to work together to prevent rubbish dumping, which he has emphasised has negative effects on the environment, human health, and aesthetics. He recalled that the city of Novelda has enough resources to properly dispose of waste, including the Ecopark, which is open Monday through Saturday, a free home collection service for household items, a business plastic and cardboard collection service, and a mobile ecopark.
