A fire in a bungalow near the MartÃnez Valero stadium on Calle Ciudad de Figueres in Elche injured two residents, one of whom was admitted to Elche General Hospital for burns.
The fire began early yesterday morning, on a mattress in the basement, for reasons that the investigation have yet to determine. The fire spread throughout the building, causing the two women, one 22 years old and the other 51, to evacuate before emergency services arrived.
The Provincial Consortium Firefighters deployed a command unit, a heavy urban fire engine, a heavy and light tanker fire engine, and six firefighters from the Elche and Crevillent fire stations, including a sergeant and two corporals. They spent over an hour suppressing and extinguishing the flames before declaring the fire extinguished at 11:06 a.m.
The Cicú has deployed an SVB unit to treat a 22-year-old woman for smoke inhalation. She has sought voluntary release. The other renter, aged 51, has been admitted to Elche General Hospital with burns.
